1. CORE PHILOSOPHY: PRIVACY-FIRST & ZERO-TELEMETRY
Tacit is built from the ground up as a fully local-first, offline-first application. We believe that your media processing habits, listening history, and personal files belong to you alone.
- No Tracking or Analytics: The Software contains zero embedded analytics, tracking pixels, telemetry beacons, background monitors, or third-party error-reporting frameworks.
- No Centralized Usage Logs: Tacit LLC does not collect, aggregate, or store records of the podcasts you process, the audio files you edit, the timestamps detected, or the frequency with which you execute the Software.
2. LOCAL DATA STORAGE AND EXECUTION
All operations performed by the Software execute locally on your personal computing hardware or private server environment.
- Application Storage: All local databases (including SQLite state files), configurations, user preferences, temporary audio chunks, speech-to-text transcripts, and log files are stored exclusively within your local application data directory or assigned container volume mount (e.g.,
/config). - Temporary Processing Cache: Audio files and intermediate processing data created during ad-detection routines remain on your local disk and are managed directly by your local operating system or container environment. Tacit LLC has no access to your local filesystem or data cache.
3. THIRD-PARTY INFERENCE ENDPOINTS & BYOK (BRING-YOUR-OWN-KEY)
Tacit operates as an unopinionated orchestration utility utilizing a "Bring-Your-Own-Key" (BYOK) architecture. You have complete discretion over which AI inference backend you connect to the Software.
- Locally Hosted AI Models (Recommended Baseline): When configured to connect to a local inference engine (such as Ollama, llama.cpp, or a local OpenAI-compatible proxy running on your network), 100% of audio transcription and language model processing stays within your local network environment. No data leaves your network.
- External Cloud API Endpoints: If you voluntarily choose to input a third-party API key (such as an OpenAI-compatible cloud endpoint) into your local settings:
- The Software transmits data requests directly from your local machine (IP address) to the specified third-party API endpoint over an encrypted HTTPS connection.
- Tacit LLC acts as neither a proxy nor an intermediary. Your API keys, prompts, audio chunks, and transcripts never pass through, touch, or get stored on Tacit LLC servers.
- Your interactions with third-party API providers are governed exclusively by the respective Privacy Policies and Terms of Service of those third-party providers.
4. OFFLINE LICENSE VALIDATION & DEVICE IDENTIFIERS
To enforce local licensing tiers without compromising user anonymity, Tacit utilizes an offline cryptographic validation system:
- Local Hardware Identifier (`.tacit_id`): Upon initial execution, the Software generates a randomized, mathematical Hardware Device ID stored locally in your configuration directory (`.tacit_id`). This identifier is non-reversible and contains no personally identifiable information (PII) such as your name, email address, or IP address.
- Cryptographic Signature Verification: License keys purchased via
runtacit.comcontain an offline Ed25519 mathematical signature corresponding to your Device ID. Verification of your license tier is performed entirely in-process on your local machine without making outbound network calls to an online validation server.
5. WEBSITE DATA COLLECTION (RUNTACIT.COM)
When you visit Our website at runtacit.com:
- Web Infrastructure Logs: Like most standard web servers, Our web hosting provider may log basic, non-identifying technical metadata (such as HTTP request headers, browser type, and timestamps) strictly for server maintenance, DDoS protection, and security monitoring.
- E-Commerce Transactions: Payments for commercial license keys are processed through independent, third-party payment gateways (e.g., Stripe or merchant-of-record processors). When you purchase a license key, the payment processor handles your financial information in accordance with their privacy policies. Tacit LLC does not store full credit card numbers or sensitive payment credentials.
6. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
The Software and Site are not directed to individuals under the age of 13. Because Tacit LLC does not collect personal data, We do not knowingly gather or maintain personal information from children.
